Generator Installation
Houston Loses Power. Your Home Does Not Have To. When the grid goes down, your standby generator detects the outage and starts automatically.
Reliable Power When It Matters Most
Anyone who lived through Hurricane Beryl, Harvey, or the February 2021 freeze knows what it means to be without power in Houston. It is not an inconvenience — it is a real problem, and for households with medical equipment, infants, or elderly family members, it can be dangerous.
LCF Electrical installs Generac whole-home generators across The Woodlands, Conroe, Spring, Tomball, Magnolia, Houston, Katy, Cypress, Humble, and surrounding areas. Every installation is fully permitted, inspected, and backed by a fixed-price quote.
Whole-Home vs Portable Generators
Portable Generators
Require manual setup, extension cords or a manual transfer switch, and need to be refueled. They should never be run inside a garage or home.
Standby Generators
Permanently installed outside your home, connected to your natural gas or propane supply, and wired to an automatic transfer switch (ATS). They start on their own.

Permits and Compliance
A standby generator installation in Houston requires an electrical permit from the Houston Permitting Center. In many cases, a separate gas or plumbing permit is also required for the fuel line work. LCF Electrical manages the electrical permit and coordinates with our licensed plumbing partners for the gas connection.
The manufacturer's installation manual must remain on the job site throughout the inspection process. City inspectors will verify the installation against the manual and the applicable code requirements.
Noise Ordinance Compliance
Houston's Chapter 30 Code of Ordinances regulates noise levels in residential areas. Generac units are designed to meet typical residential noise requirements, but placement matters. We factor setback distances and sound levels into the installation plan.
All electrical work complies with the 2023 NEC and is performed under TDLR License #41252.

Sizing Your Generator
Generator sizing is based on the electrical load you want to support. We will assess your home's total load during the quote visit and recommend the right size for your situation. We do not upsell capacity you do not need.
Essential Circuits Only
8-12kW
Powers lighting, refrigerator, a few outlets, and a single smaller HVAC unit. Lower cost, but you will need to manage what you run.
Whole-Home Coverage
16-22kW
Covers all essential systems plus central AC in most standard Houston homes. This is the most common choice for single-family homes up to around 2,500 square feet.
High-Demand Homes
24-26kW+
Needed for larger homes, homes with multiple HVAC zones, pools, or significant electrical loads. Also appropriate if you want full whole-home coverage without any load management.
Generac's Self-Testing Feature
Generac standby generators run a brief self-test automatically once a week — typically for about 12 minutes. This keeps the engine in working order so it is ready when you need it. You will see it start up and run briefly. This is normal and by design.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does installation take?
Most whole-home generator installations take one to two days for the electrical work. Gas line work may require a separate scheduling window with our plumbing partner.
Does it run on natural gas?
Most installations connect to the home's existing natural gas supply from CenterPoint Energy. Propane is also an option for homes without a natural gas connection.
What happens when the power comes back?
The ATS detects grid restoration and transfers the home back to utility power automatically. The generator goes through a cool-down cycle and shuts off.
Do I need to maintain it?
Yes. Generac recommends annual maintenance including oil changes, filter replacements, and system checks. LCF offers maintenance plans to keep your generator ready for storm season.
What if I am out of town when the power goes out?
That is exactly the point. The generator starts automatically with no action required. Many Generac units also support remote monitoring via the Generac Mobile Link app.
